Knowing the origin and causes of an illness is the first step in treating it. Science has determined that arthritis is an inflammatory condition. When it comes to arthritis, the synovial joints are most commonly impacted. Rheumatoid arthritis, which is also known as RA, is another kind of an arthritis. It is an autoimmune disorder, which implies that the affected body part's cells begin to self-destruct.

What does Ayurveda say about rheumatoid arthritis or arthritis in general?

Doshas are the main focus of ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, ama refers to the accumulation of toxins in our bodies. Rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of arthritis are triggered by the ama dosha.

The increase of ama dosha in the abdominal area is brought on by a variety of factors. Eating food that is incompatible with other foods, such as mixing honey and ghee (clarified butter) in the same amounts or consuming milk and fish at the same time, is viruddha ahara ,this causes ama buildup. Other reasons include ignoring one's natural urges, sleeping throughout the day, eating foods with hot and cold potencies combined, having too much sex, and many others.

The situation known as ama vata develops when the raised or vitiated vata dosha is paired with the production of ama dosha. This ama vata is comparable to the term "arthritis" used today.

Well now we know how rheumatoid arthritis develops, let us focus on what are the treatments one can follow. This basically includes avoiding the factors that cause ama vata so viruddha ahara, sleeping in a day should totally be avoided. One should avoid the consumption of heavy food (guru ahara shouldn't be consumed).

When it comes to medication, medicines such as Yograj Guggulu, Triphala, and oil made from Eranda are recommended. But one has to remember that no medication should be consumed before consulting an ayurveda physician. Yoga and meditation also helps in treating arthritis.
