Ayurveda includes eight branches, and one of them is called "Bala." This indicates that pediatrics is a different branch of ayurveda, and this branch teaches how to treat newborns, infants, and children under sixteen. One of the most significant texts when it comes to children's health is this ancient text known as Kashyap Samhita. It teaches us how to maintain the child's health.

The term "Sanskaras" is used in the Kashyap Samhita. Sanskaras is the Traditional term for performing rituals and customs at specific times and for children of specific ages. These Samskaras are thought to promote children's health.

According to Ayurveda, there are roughly forty Samskaras, but just a few of them are essential for newborns and young children. The first one is the Nishkramana Samskara, where the kid is brought into contact with the outer world for the first time. It is important to perform the Namakarana Samskara because, as the name suggests, a child receives their identity through this Sanskara. One of the Samskaras involves piercing a child's ears.

The food should provide the child with the appropriate nutrition at this stage because they are growing very quickly. For the first six months, only breast milk is advised; thereafter, a liquid diet that is easy on the digestive system is advised. In the past, the idea of a "wet nurse" was common; if the mother is unable to feed the kid with her milk, another lactating woman should come and do so.

For a child to have healthy bones, regular massage is essential.
